Post-Mutech Event

So its all done and dusted. I have once again broke my promise and took ages to do another blog post. It is approximately now two weeks since we did the event and what do I have to say on the it?

Well to start off it went really well in my opinion. There have been a few hiccups along the way but it worked out in the end.

Theres nothing much more for me to be highlighting regarding posters as at this point they had been done. However before the event, after a few problems regarding certain members of the group, the assigned tasks ended up being shared among the class, especially in regards to the distribution of said posters.

Unfortunately I felt this is where the promotion/press let us down, by us taking it into our own hands. Me and Jake went throughout the whole of Abbey Park campus, in the main building handing out these posters to be places on the walls for each wall. This turned out to be successful in our approach and got most floors covered. Meanwhile back at Upper Brown Street there was a poster placed on the front of the building in a box.

We worked hard as a team beforehand to make sure the CD’s were done well in advance. It was thanks to John Meredith we got the wonderful CD design printed onto disc via printing them out for us then kudos to Paul for order the ejector cases and also getting the artwork then printed to be inserted. Once all these had come together we then spent around an hour or so, with 5 of us burning CD’s using a premade mastered playlist done by Richard Wheelband. We burned these CD’s in record time, burning 60 of them via 7 Mac’s at the same time.

Now come together, the main item this whole event was based around was finally complete and ready for sale. On the night we also had badges withe Mutech logo, once again courtesy of Richard Wheelband getting them done earlier on in the planning stages. Another excellent addition to the night were shirts that Elliot got printed, these were of a high quality and really added to the atmosphere of the show, making us all feel a part of a team working to a common goal on the night to put on the best show possible.

These shirts can be viewed in the picture at the bottom of the full team, all wearing our shirts (Except Rich the spoil sport)

I would also like to comment on the online presence for the night. I thought Elliot and Luis did an excellent job of trying hard to keep the online presence as alive as possible. The only trouble was that on facebook, the actual “like” page for a total of 39 fans. This was due out of too little too late from most members of the group  when it came to promoting it.  However those apart of the page were constantly reminded of the event whether it was through the songs being reposted through sound cloud. Another effort by the crew was the sound cloud and the blog on wordpress which reposted the blog posts of its members, me included.

The management was taken on wonderfully, with Paul reminding us all of our tasks on the day of the event and generally being so well prepared, driving us to victory.

We all had separate roles on the day which we agreed to beforehand. I was taking part in setting up the backline so we started by taking part in the set up of the drum riser, followed by amps and then mic’ing the said amps up, with a separate team setting up the drum kit itself. Once again certain members let the group down in on stage aspect of the setting up and as a result we also ended up taking on the setting up of the monitors, helping Ben out who was left on his own.

We had two people external from the group to carry the buckets for Loros and wear the supplied T shirts from them. The role the girls carrying the buckets took on was to simply collect donations towards the charity. These were successful collecting a good sum of the money overall. At the start of the night, we rotated who would be on the door and selling CD’s, it was also at this point where as a majority vote, we brought down the CD price from £5 to £3. I personally thought that £5 for a CD consisting of artists some people may have never heard of, is a ludicrous price, yes we had most of those artists playing on the night also appearing on the CD but I feel that £3 fits in the more “loose change” territory with some people going rather than a £5 price tag the customer who is sure of their purchase

We got along just fine on the night, unfortunately some bands ran over their allotted time causing the last band Even More Than You to have a cut down set.

Overall it was a successful night, managing to raise around £150 towards our chosen charity Loros through selling badges and CD’s and then there were donations on top of that. The Ejector Case was also a good gimmick to sell on which impressed the public.

Overall while I have consistently remained positive in this blog. I assure you all that this event did not go without its stress and anger especially towards certain members of the team for one reason or another but at the end of the day this was a learning curve and as a result proved who would work well for what role they were give and whether I would want to work with them again.

Anyways enough of the negativity, heres a lovely picture of the gang at the end of the show, posing for a group photo.

To all my comrades, well done and bring on June 10th!
